The Oprah Show, I watch most nights.
Perhaps you'll help me with my plight.
I've written to you once before.
I hope I don't become a bore.
That letter, you did not attend,
nevertheless, I'll try again.
I still suffer, years later, from low self-esteem.
I'm sure that rape victims know just what I mean.
All of my life, I've tried, you'll see:
to overcome rape that was done to me.
I've held onto resentments and a grudge
that lead me to the use of drugs.
My struggles weren't unlike many others'
But it made me untrusting of my Black Brothers.
I've tried to find better uses for my mind
by writing poetry, not turning to crime.
I wish to let the whole world kknow
that though personal abuse can hurt you so...
with faith and hope from God above,
struggles can be overcome with love.
I hope you'll read the poetry I've sent to you
and that you really enjoy it, too.
My poems give Universal hope.
They're aimed at helping people cope.
If you've enjoyed the poems you've read
and you can relate to the things I've said:
Just let me know and I'll send more,
at your leisure, to explore.
